Role and uses of sodium dodecyl sulphate

Sodium dodecyl sulfate is an anionic surfactant, white to light yellow solid (can be divided into needle or powder), easily soluble in water, and anionic and nonionic complexity, with good emulsification, foaming, infiltration, decontamination and dispersion properties. It is widely used in pharmacy, papermaking, building materials, chemical industry, textile, oil extraction, cosmetics, detergents, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry detergent, plastic demoulding and lubrication industries.

The role and use of sodium dodecyl sulfate:

1, in cosmetics, skin care products are mainly used as foaming agent, cleaning agent, wetting agent (so that cosmetics as soon as possible to contact with the skin, to avoid being blocked by the skin's oil), safer, no acne-causing;

2, as detergent, textile bleaching additives and carpet dyeing agent;

3, wool purifying agent;

4, leather loosening agent;

5, used as toothpaste, fire extinguisher foaming agent;

6, Used as cooking penetrant in papermaking;

7, oil wells, mine fire extinguishing agent;

8, emulsifier for styrene butadiene and propylene vinyl acid latex emulsion polymerisation;

9, Emulsifier for synthetic resin;

10, Flotation agent for metal ore dressing;

11, Biochemical analysis, ion pair reagent;

12, in pesticides as anionic surface penetrant use, generally in the water-soluble pesticides added at 0.1% -0.3%, can significantly increase the absorption of drugs on the leaves;

13, sodium dodecyl sulfate is a commonly used ionic descaling agent, can make the cell membrane disintegration, and the hydrophobic part of the membrane protein binding and make it separate from the membrane, high concentration of SDS can also destroy the ionic bond and hydrogen bonding and other non-covalent bonding in the proteins, and even change the conformation of the protein. This feature is often used in SDS gel electrophoresis for protein composition analysis;

14、Used as a wetting agent in electroplating, it can reduce the surface tension between the plating solution and the plated parts, remove the hydrogen bubbles on the surface of the plated parts, and prevent the appearance of pinholes, and it is generally used in nickel plating solution;

15、Used in mortar admixture, it can play the role of water reduction, increase the ease of use, water retention;

17, in the paint industry as a surfactant, can reduce the surface tension of the paint, making the paint better distributed on the surface of the object;

18、Aluminium alloy in the oxidation treatment process, adding sodium dodecyl sulfate solution can reduce the surface tension, so that the oxidant molecules easier to contact with the metal to make the reaction more closely;

19, GB 2760-96 stipulated as food industry processing aids. Used in cakes, beverages, protein, fresh fruit, juice drinks, edible oils and so on;
