Copper nitrate, English name Cupric nitrate, room temperature and pressure for the white powder, has a strong hygroscopicity, long time in the room temperature environment is easy to moisture degradation. Copper nitrate belongs to the salt of copper metal, the common form of its corresponding trihydrate, hexahydrate, etc., trihydrate for the dark blue columnar crystals, soluble in water and ethanol, and its aqueous solution is acidic. Dissolved in concentrated ammonia to form the complex salt of tetramethylammonium nitrate, the complex salt will explode when heated. Heating copper nitrate to 170 ℃ decomposition into insoluble alkali salt. Continued heating is transformed into copper oxide. Copper nitrate is a strong oxidising agent, which can cause combustion or explosion when heated, rubbed or hit with charcoal, sulphur or other combustible materials. When burning, it produces toxic and irritating nitrogen oxide gas.
Copper nitrate 1, used in the manufacture of purer copper oxide, is also the raw material for the manufacture of other copper salts, copper plating . Also used in the manufacture of pesticides. It is used as mordant, copper catalyst and combustion aid. Used as colouring agent in enamel industry. It is also used in the paint industry for the manufacture of inorganic pigments. Used as enamel colouring agent, also used for copper plating, copper oxide and pesticides, etc. Used as analytical reagent and oxidant.
2、Copper nitrate can be used as a colouring agent for ceramics, to produce high purity copper oxide, copper carbonate, copper catalyst. It can be used as the raw material of photosensitive resistor material and phosphor activator, and also can be used as electroplating and chemical reagent.
3、Used as analytical reagent, oxidising agent, nitrating agent, catalyst and phosphor activator and photosensitive resistor material, used in picture tube production and copper plating.
4、Copper nitrate can be used as a supply source for copper plating and as an additive for chemical polishing of aluminium and alloys . It is also often used in the etching of steel and iron.
